*The battygirl Cave*

The button is pushed.. for a moment nothing appears to happen..

*What you don't know is your retinas are being scanned by a pair of micro-infrared-leds.. your retena pattern flashed across the Internet to CIA headquarters in Quantico Virginia and the FBI "McGruff the Crime-Dog" Digital computer in Washington DC where it's compaired to known criminals and battygirl enemys.*

When no match is found, a solonoid throws and a silent, electric motor whisks the secret door to the battycave open. Before you is the dark, poorly lit, steaply decending stairway to the battygirl cave.. an automated female voice warns "Please watch you're step.. the stairs can be slippery.."

As you go down the winding staircase, there are framed pictures from famous battygirl cases, you hear the echo of your foot steps and the very sound of your breathing seems loud, amplified in this narrow passageway with its damp walls.

From somewhere you hear the sound of water dripping..

bip........bip.......bip

As your eyes adjust, you notice that as you decend, the lighting, dim as it is, seems to follow your progress.. *"Motion detectors", You think to yourself.*

Down and down you go.. your curiosity leading you on like Virgil leading Dante thru that other netherworld.. until suddenly, at the end of another tight winding curve the stairs stop and you find yourself in the battygirl cave.

When you step off the stairs the cave lights turn on, a large plasma TV on the wall, volume turned down, comes to life and the cave begins to resonate to Over The Rhine's "Thank you my angel".

A console at the center of the cave is a winking, blinking circus of activity, you see yourself standing by the console on one of many TV monitors lining the wall and a folder called Case 121 catches your attention. You open it and begin to read.

A *clunk* sound makes you flinch and a blue smoke quickly fills the cave and your lungs.. you feel dizzy, you try to reachout to steady yourself and before you completely blackout you see the floor rushing at you.

 meanwhile...  battygirl

Far away and above, at school, battygirl is listening to a lecture in chemestry II.. "polymers, our little friends", when the bat-security-link alerts her to activity in the batty cave. Quickly packing up, she leaves the lecture hall to quizical and annoyed looks.

The quickest way to the battygirl cave from school is through an old, wooden phone booth near the gym. She winds her way down the crowded halls only to find a LINE to use the phone!! argh!! *Stomping foot* *Doesn't everyone on EARTH have a cell phone??!!* she thinks.

The collection of books in her back-pack seem to be getting heavier and heavier, so in desperation she decides to try the old trap-door secret entrance to the sportsbar located in the back of the library.

There in the least used, most poorly lit part of the school library an old, dust covered copy of "OJ, Americas football hero" acts as the secret lever. Leigh quickly peels off her skool uniform revealing her battygirl costume underneath and, sliping on her mask she clutches the book tightly and pulls..

Several seconds pass as her fingers holding the book are scanned for finger prints.. battygirl spends that time scooping up her bookbag and trying to remember why she doesn't use THIS route more often. The digitized prints match and after a security-pass beep, a trap door under her feet opens.

The Sportsbar, as always, is an ocean of human enterprise and most of the regulars are there. A sudden sound draws most of the eyes to the ceiling where a ceiling tile opens and battygirl plunges into the giant, 360 gallon fish tank by the restrooms

**SPLASH!!** ArggggGGG!.. PUaaAA!.. pppaaa! *spiting water*

Climbing out of the tank isn't easy - the water-logged bookbag weighs a ton, scattered papaers are difficult to retrieve and there's all that water to clean up but finally the still wet battygirl heads for the cave.

As batty walks toward a spot in the wall by the juke-box she presses a recessed button on her utility belt "Go cave", she whispers. A bandaid-like microphone & transitter in her mask transmits the words to a voice-recognition reciever in the far wall.

With her other hand she drops a micro-smoke pelet which explodes harmlessly on the floor releasing a brief, dense, red cloud of smoke to cover her exit..

*********Poof*

battygirl seems to disappear in a cloud of red smoke as she steps thru to the cave landing and the bar door whisks silently closed
